Mental Health Advisory Council

The Comprehensive Mental Health Act of 1987 mandated the establishment of Mental Health Local Advisory Councils in every Minnesota county. Local Advisory Council membership gives voice to individuals who know firsthand the strengths and weaknesses of the mental health system and includes adults who receive mental health services, those who received services as children and their and family members.

The purpose of the Local Advisory Council is to use the knowledge and experience of a broad range of stakeholders to find ways to improve local mental health services. The council provides the Rice County Board of Commissioners with an annual report of unmet mental health needs for inclusion in the county's mental health plan and advises the board regarding needed mental health services.
