Recorder's Office
The Rice County Recorder/Registrar of Titles is the custodian of all property and vital statistic records in Rice County.
The Recorder files all documents pertaining to Abstract and Torrens properties, federal and state tax liens, military discharges, plats, liens, miscellaneous documents, notary publics, wedding officiant filings and process marriage records. The department also keeps a connection with the Minnesota Department of Health for the processing of birth and death requisitions and filings. It also processes document copies or certified copies and assists with real estate and vital records research.
The Recorder's Office accepts, reviews, receipts, indexes and verifies, then scans to preserve the document. It accepts paper or electronic documents for filing. Over 300 types of documents get recorded. The Recorder's Office must comply with state laws and do so with accuracy and quality. The Recorder is also the registrar who examines real estate titles and maintains certificates of title for all registered property.
Rice County does not offer legal advice or assistance with preparing documents.
The office also serves as a passport agent for the U.S. Department of State, processing and submitting passport applications. It also takes professional passport photos.
