Solid Waste Division
As a part of the Environmental Services Department in Rice County, the Solid Waste Division provides a location for county residents and businesses to take their recycling, garbage and hazardous household waste, and know it will be disposed of or recycled in a responsible manner.
Located at 3800 East 145th Street, Dundas, the Solid Waste Facility is where the county operates a landfill, mixed material recycling, as well as hazardous household waste recycling. Only Rice County property owners, residents and businesses may utilize the facility.

Making an appointment
County residents and property owners can make an appointment and prepay for items they wish to bring to the Solid Waste Facility themselves. The types of items brought in include mattresses, box springs, tires and appliances such as refrigerators. By making an appointment, you may reduce your wait time once you arrive.
To make an appointment and prepay, visit the Online payments/scheduling page or follow the instructions below. When you arrive at the Solid Waste Facility for your appointment, let the attendant know you have an appointment by stopping on the scale at the speaker box.

Common household products, such as paints, solvents, cleaning products, adhesives and pesticides can be hazardous to humans, animals and the environment when improperly disposed of. - Can I recycle used oil and filters?

Used Motor Oil: Do-It-Yourselfers may dispose of used oil at the Rice County Recycling Center, located at 3800 E 145 St in Dundas. Many full service auto centers also accept used oil. Most places that sell oil filters will recycle them for a fee. Used Oil Filters: Residents may dispose of their oil filters for free at the Recycling Center. For a list of Fees please refer to the

Minnesota law forbids the landfilling of yard waste such as leaves, grass clippings and brush. Minnesotans are encouraged to either compost yard waste at home or bring it to a community compost site. Rice County residents can bring their yard waste to any of the community compost sites listed below or to the Solid Waste facility free of charge. For more information visit the
