Plat Review

Fee

Effective Jan. 1, 2014, the county surveyor will charge a fee for reviewing all plats, common interest community plats (CIC) and registered land survey plats (RLS) prior to being recorded. The following fee schedule was approved by the Rice County Board of Commissioners:

  • $200 per plat, common interest community plat or registered land survey plat
  • An additional $20 per lot, outlot, unit or tract

This fee does not include any existing fees charged by Environmental Services or the Recorder’s Office. This fee was adopted pursuant to Minnesota State Statute 389.09.

Materials to submit

Land surveyors or developers are asked to submit two full-size paper copies or email full-size pdf files of the proposed final plat to:

Checks should be payable to Rice County and submitted to the county surveyor. Following the county surveyor’s review, one of the copies will be returned to the land surveyor or developer. Typos, mathematical errors, and additional comments or concerns will be addressed.

Plats will be reviewed to verify they conform to applicable Minnesota state statutes. All plats should also conform to the Manual of Guidelines for Platting in Minnesota or the Common Interest Community Plat Manual of Minimum Guidelines, which have been adopted by the Minnesota Association of County Surveyors and the Minnesota Society of Professional Surveyors.
