Water Resource Management
The Water Resource Management division is responsible for updating the Rice County Local Water Management Plan and implementing its action items. The division coordinates water protection activities with outside agencies, and implements grant projects related to protecting surface and groundwater resources.

The division also assists with shoreland alteration issues, erosion control issues and wastewater treatment education.

Cannon River One Watershed, One Plan
In 2016, Rice County and other planning partners submitted an application to the Board of Water and Soil Resources to develop One Watershed, One Plan (1W1P) for the Cannon River Watershed. The goal of 1W1P is to align planning on major watershed boundaries with state strategies toward prioritized, targeted and measurable implementation plans.
